Hey there Adventure Friends!

Have you ever been overwhelmed by the vast opportunities available? Well, selecting an adventure is no different. Especially in the beginning, it can be difficult to come up with what adventure to try first or next. I got you covered! Today, I'm going to provide you with a list of adventures that you can do this weekend in your own backyard. Since its April and Spring is officially here, it is time start enjoying the outdoor again so no excuse to just hibernate with Netflix.

  1. Play like a kid

As adults, we are sometimes consumed with work, work and more work. We have forgotten why play is so important. Play is meant to enrich our lives with joy, imagination and freedom. Just like a kid who misses recess, an adult who hasn't made time to play lately will be grumpy, agitated and short with those around them. Did my description of an adult without play sound like you? It's okay to admit it. I become a Cranky Nikki when I don't get my play on. Just ask my poor husband (sorry honey). Now, determining what your particular play is, can be tricky. Start off with a classic activity you enjoyed as child. If you're stumped, try the classics like going to a playground to ride the swings, playing a sport, or miniature golf.

  1. BATTLE!!!

I'm sure you've all seen a photo where a wife leaves a note for her husband next to a Nerf gun saying “here is your weapon, I have mine, your under attack and loser makes dinner.” I know you seen it, you consider doing it but you haven't yet. What is stopping you? A little friendly competition can be just the adventure you need with your partner. When was the last time you played and laughed with your partner? If it's been a while this may be the perfect way to shake things up. If you're not a fan of Nerf products, that is fine and you can swap them out for something you do enjoy like board games, video games, dance off or whatever gets those creative juices flowing. These friendly competitions aren't just limited to your partner but it could be with your kids, nieces, nephews and friends. My husband and I were labeled COOL Aunt and Uncle for a while because we did just that to our nieces. It's been more than 2 years since that battle and they still talk about it to this day.

  1. Watch the sunset

How often do we stop and enjoy the beauty of nature and it's constant renewal? There is no greater representation of this then the Sun which greets us each morning and says goodbye each night. Not only does it provide light and warmth, the sun itself provides much beauty (those colors...mouthwatering). Find a day with a clear sky and make it a quest to find the best spot to enjoy the beauty of a sunset. Invite someone to share the experience with you. My favorite spot is when the sun sets over water.

  1. Go explore in search of a surprise

Get outside and enjoy Mother Nature by  going for a hike, walk or bike ride. Go on a hunt looking for treasure. Your treasure could be a waterfall, beautiful tree, an animal in the wild or an actual treasure chest. Some people do this though Geocaching which I have yet to try. You can go on a quest with a particular destination or prize in mind. Or you can set out on a trail and just be open to finding surprises along the way. Some of my greatest memories have been when I stumbled upon the most beautiful tree or waterfall that I had no idea existed until that day.

  1. Take a drive just to cruise

How often when you're in your car are you rushing? OFTEN...right? You're late for work, an appointment, picking up your kids and just driving as quickly as possible from point A to point B. Our time in the car is usually stressful because we're late or battling the joys of traffic. Do you remember how it felt when you first got your driver's license? You are just happy to be behind the wheel and driving a car (no matter how beat up it was). A car was freedom; there was no better experience then driving with the windows down, music turned up and filled with your friends.  Tap back into that love of driving that you have forgotten.

Find a day where you have a few hours free (not during high traffic times), the sun is shining, and the gas tank is full. You get in that car, roll the windows down, put on that music playlist you can't help but sing to, pick a direction and just drive. Pay attention to the scenery and architecture of the buildings. It may surprise you how the world around you has changed and you haven't even noticed. Stop if you find something that catches your eye that you have to explore. Hopefully, what you discover is the beauty of “I'm slowing down and observing what's around me.”
